Invited by the University of Luxembourg and the “Ni Hao” Confucius Institute, the UK Chinese Music Ensemble will bring the timeless beauty of Silk and Bamboo music and Kunqu opera to the stage of Trifolion Echternach Concert Hall, Luxembourg. Performed by a six-member ensemble, this special concert offers audiences an enchanting evening of Chinese traditional music and cultural heritage.
About the Concert
On the invitation of the University of Luxembourg and the “Ni Hao” Confucius Institute, the UK Chinese Music Ensemble will perform at the prestigious Trifolion Echternach Concert Hall.
The programme will feature Silk and Bamboo music (丝竹乐) — the elegant chamber music of southern China — alongside excerpts from Kunqu opera (昆曲), one of the oldest forms of Chinese theatre and listed by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This concert is part of the ensemble’s mission to bring the richness and diversity of Chinese music to international audiences through concerts, education, and cross-cultural exchange.
About the Ensemble
Founded in 1998, the UK Chinese Music Ensemble is the UK’s leading collective of classically trained Chinese musicians. With more than 1,000 concerts worldwide, the ensemble has performed at the Olympic Torch Relay Ceremonies (2008 & 2012), the British Museum, WOMEX (2007 & 2023), and WOMAD (2020–2022).
The ensemble collaborates with major artists and orchestras such as Lang Lang, Tan Dun, Gabriel Prokofiev, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Their music has also featured in film and television, including Wild China, Disney’s Mulan, Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and the BBC series Doctor Who.
