London Silk Road Lutes Ensemble Invited to Perform at the 4th “Belt and Road” Music Education Alliance International Conference

17-23 October 2025

The London Silk Road Lutes Ensemble, led by Prof Cheng Yu, has been officially invited by the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM), Beijing, to take part in the 4th “Belt and Road” Music Education Alliance International Conference, to be held from 18 to 22 October 2025 in Beijing and Shanghai.

As part of the conference’s Silk Road Cultural Exchange Forum, the ensemble will present a special performance and lecture entitled “The Soundscape of the Silk Road Lutes — A Musical Journey from China to Central Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.”

Founded in 2024, the London Silk Road Lutes Ensemble brings together professional musicians and students from SOAS University of London, exploring the historical and cultural connections among various lute traditions across Eurasia.

The ensemble has received funding from Arts Council England, and has performed at prestigious venues including the Royal Academy of Music, the British Museum, the Dutch Church, and the London International Chinese Music Festival, earning widespread attention and praise.

Prof Cheng Yu said, “We are deeply honoured to represent the UK at this significant international event. It’s a wonderful opportunity to share our Silk Road musical journey and foster dialogue between Eastern and Western traditions.” 🎶

The ensemble looks forward to meeting music friends and audiences in Beijing and Shanghai this October!
